How to Prevent Thigh Chafing
Hey Babes!
Let’s talk about how to prevent THIGH CHAFING! (No ice breaker here ladies!).
It’s HOT here in Florida right now which means that it’s the time of year where us girls have to find that balance between comfortable dresses and making sure there’s still skin on your thighs after walking around all day.
For the past few weeks I’ve been on a mission to find the best method to prevent thigh chafing.
Yes, I work out. However, the way my body is structured, my thighs touch. They love each other in a deep and profound way. That’s life. I just wanted to find a way for all three of us to live together in harmony – just me and my two thighs.
Now for the results of my two experiments! The picture of me on the right reflects my JOY after testing one of these two products!
Experiment #1: Anti-Thigh Chafing Stick
I first heard about anti-chafing products last fall. That’s right! Just as squirrels prepare for winter, I prepare for the thigh-chafing heat of summer.
I heard about the Megababe brand on a podcast and became interested in the concept. I eventually decided to give it a try.
I must admit that I had the expectations that Megababe’s Thigh Rescue would give my thighs the ability to simply glide past each other with ease. I think I got that impression from the superhero themed branding. Unfortunately, the Thigh Rescue was just “okay”.
It has an oily consistency, which surprised me. It glides on nicely. It’s also non-toxic (yay!). However, the instructions didn’t say how much to apply. That’s important to me because I’m “heavy handed” when it comes to products.
I took it for a test run at work. I even told a co-worker about my little experiment. She wanted all of the deets as well. Thigh chafing does not discriminate people.
After about an hour at the office, it became clear that Megababe’s Thigh Rescue was more Bruce Banner than The Hulk. While it protected my skin and prevented chafing, it didn’t give me the glide I was looking for or expecting. Again, this may have been a misunderstanding on my part.
Also, I definitely felt the need to re-apply after being exposed to the 90-degree, Florida heat during my lunch hour. I reported my mid-day results to my co-worker. She suggested I go for a power walk in the parking lot. I declined. I didn’t think my thighs, or I, were up to the task.
Overall, the Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Chafe Stick gets a 3 out of 5. It’s not bad and it will protect your skin. However, you’ll probably need to re-apply throughout the day and it won’t give your thighs super powers.
Experiment #2: Anti-Chafe Undergarments
After the first experiment, it became BLATANTLY obvious that I would need to level up my anti-chaffing game if I was going to make it through the summer. That’s when I had an epiphany. SHAPEWEAR!!!
I knew I didn’t want to wear super constrictive shapewear every day. Sorry, I’m just not about that life. However, I’m happy to report that I found the PERFECT shapewear for this situation. Soma’s Smoothing Short!
The Soma Smoothing Short is a lightweight shapewear that can be worn under your clothes. As stated on their website, it can be worn under pants and dresses to help create a smooth look for your backside. Let’s get down to brass tax, these are long-legged panties girls. It doesn’t sound pretty or sexy, but once you slip these on YOU WILL NOT CARE!!!
Listen Linda. These things work! They’re SUPER comfortable, breathable and lightweight. They completely eliminate friction and chaffing and allow your thighs to glide past one another with ease. They are AMAZING! The only drawback is that you can't wear them under certain shorts or skirts due to the length.
At the time of this post, you can get two pair for $39.00. Not cheap, but worth the investment. Also, I can personally vouch for the quality of the Soma product. I’ve been purchasing undergarments from them for nearly 10 years. Their products are 100% worth the investment.
So, it looks like my thighs and I have found the perfect solution to our thigh chaffing conundrum. Also, I definitely plan to keep the Megababe Thigh Rescue for the times I wear skirts or shorts that are just a tad bit too short for the Soma Smoothing Shorts. In this heat, a girl has to have options and backups.
Alright babes, that’s all for now.
‘Til next time…
Stay healthy and glamorous,
Eboneé Marie
